About Merfyn Owen
The world’s tallest Vietnamese stand up comic, Hung headlined and got an encore in his very first stand up attempt.
An award winning author, musician, clown, actor, Hung has done musical theatre as a song and dance man, headlined the Melbourne Symphony and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras, a Circus Oz performer, Children puppetry and his stand up work and theatre shows are always edgy, satirical, political and his musical send ups go straight for the jocular.
His first book ‘The Yellow Peril From Sin City’ was released through Penguin. His second, a children’s book ‘BarryNoodles & DaKillerBs’ is with Random House. His third book ‘The Crappiest Refugee’ with Affirm Press. A constant on Australian TV since 1988, Hung has made documentaries for the ABC and SBS and Atlas Australia for the Discovery Channel and his own documentary in Vietnam called The Mist Of The Perfume River.
Overseas TV include CNN, MTV, The Muppet Show, Wow Wow [Japan], London Weekend Television, Live At Jongleurs, The Churchill Show: Kenya and has two gold medal winning TVCs. Hung’s international festival credits include Edinburgh Fringe, Just For Laughs: Montreal, MICF, Adelaide Fringe, Perth Fringe, Hong Kong Fringe, Liverpool Comedy Festival, KLICF, Weirdass Pyjama Festival:Mumbai.
He has appeared in a dozen Australian movies and has supported the likes of Engelbert Humperdink, Leo Sayer, Jose Feliciano and Frank Sinatra.
The man just has funny bones.
